Forbidden Territory by Addison Carmichael | A Prequel To A Sequel

*I was sent an ARC of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review, my thoughts and opinions are my own!*

Title: Forbidden Territory

Series: Sons of the Alpha

Publication Date: March 15th, 2019

Author: Addison Carmichael

Amazon

Genre: paranormal, romance, werewolf, short story

[Synopsis: Knocked unconscious in a storm along the Rio Grande River, werewolf Sophie Gabrielle wakes up to find that she had crossed over from neutral Colorado into New Mexico, were-Coyote territory. Worse, she was rescued by Tomas Duarte from the notorious Juarez Coyote Pack itself. And in spite of his dangerously charming Latin façade, Sophie has no idea what he plans to do with her.

Or if he knows why she’s really there in forbidden territory in the first place.]

Addison is one of my favorite Indie authors, and you guys have seen me read pretty much all of her books up to the current second of the day (unless she secretly published another one I don't know about... Maybe I should double check...)!
Either way, this prequel takes place in her new paranormal series Sons of the Alpha! Here's the order of the books to make it less confusing:

Beauty and Her Beast (Prequel to Knight)
            Knight (Book 1)
           Forbidden Territory (Prequel to Heir)
            Heir (Book 2)

Make sense?

Basically, there is a prequel for each book in the series, and yes you do want to read all the books in order- makes it a better experience!

So this book explores one of the other were-species mentioned in the first two books of the series, the series is mainly about the werewolves but it does mention some of the others (such as were-coyotes, were-cats I think??).

Forbidden Territory shows us one of the other were species, and gives a bit of backstory that is super important for both Knight and Heir (the book this is a prequel for). It explains some things that happened in Knight, and it sets us up for Heir.

I did enjoy getting more of this new world Carmichael created and seeing a bit of a sneak peek for book two of a series I'm in love with!
However, while I keep in my mind this prequel was just a short story to prepare for the next book, it wasn't a favorite. There were a few things that bothered me as I read, and then the ending came so suddenly- and I wasn't ready for it to end like that of all ways!

It was kind of like that for the other prequel and the first book in the series though, so I just know Heir is going to be awesome and I'm going to love it!!

Because the prequels are just short stories that are meant to give more information and a different experience once you read the other books. Just keep that in mind.

So I enjoyed some aspects of this prequel, but did I love it? No.

Am I super duper excited for the sequel and going to love it?? YES!!

(I know it's confusing, but it makes more sense when you read the series with the prequels lol.)

I tend to like the full length books (Knight, Heir, etc.) quite a bit better than the novellas- though I do still enjoy the prequels! I like how they give you an extra backstory and Easter eggs throughout the books, but for some reason I just am more in love with the books than the prequels.

[My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐] [2.5 stars!]

Have any of you read this book or this series?? What do you think of it?? Have you read any books by this author before?

Thanks for reading!!

  1. Sorry you didn't love this but at least you didn't hate it either right? Great honest review!

    1. That's true! Better to be in the in-between than hate it. Thank you!

  2. Novellas and prequels can be tough, I agree. Hit or miss sometimes. Sounds like the world and the series itself are great though! I love the idea of were- cats. If I were a were it would be probably be a cat I'd pick (I mean, if I had a choice lol).

    1. I think I'd want to be a were-wolf, because I love wolves and dogs! xD

  3. Novellas can be very hit and miss for sure. I tend to look at prequels to give me an idea if I might like the author or series. Not a reader of paranormal romance though!

    1. I usually wait until after I've read the series to read the prequels, then I'm already in love with certain characters and the world- and I want to know more!

  4. I love paranormal romance, I tend to read that most of the time. This sounds like it had potential to be good.

    1. It did have the potential, but I'm just happy the main books are still good!
