April's Flowers! | A Monthly Wrap Up

So I tried a couple new things in April, and they're working pretty good so far! The blogging memes are sometimes hard to keep up with, but that's because I don't want to overload you guys with so many posts lol.

Though I am really glad you guys seem to enjoy them as much as me!

Here's the wrap up for April, and I actually am unsure of my May TBR at the moment... so no TBR post for now. I'm not sure what I'll be reading because I'm going on a trip in May, and I won't be back til sometime in June (though I will still be blogging in that time!).

~ Random Updates from the past Month ~

  • I saw Shazam and was absolutely amazed- I loved it!! As well as Avengers: Endgame!!
  • Finally got caught up and watched Aquaman, the scenery was nice and the action was cool- the love interest was literally The Little Mermaid- so overall it was okay. I didn't love it, but I didn't dislike it so... yeah.
  • I cracked down and made an Instagram account- believe me, it took a lot of convincing from some people- and I really like it so far! (It's not what I thought it was apparently!)
  • I ate my fill of Chinese food, so now I'm not craving it as much~ Wait. Nope- still craving it.
  • I've discovered Apple Books!!
  • I realized how many book reviews I need to pump out for you guys 😬

My Weekly Pull | 15 |

My Weekly Pull is something I do every Wednesday to show which anime, manga, and comic I pull for myself for the week. My friend Lindsi @ Do You Dog-ear? hosts My Weekly Pull for comics that she has read or is reading, so make sure to check her out because it was such a cool and fun idea that I asked if I could do it for anime and manga as well as comics!

                   ~                    ~                    ~                     ~                       ~

Last Week's Binge...

The past week I was finishing up some ReadAThons and reading challenges- which are going great! And I managed to finish get farther into a couple of series!

I watched some more of Your Lie In April, though I did have to start over when my brother wanted to watch it with me.

I got in a few more episodes of Black Butler, however, I'm sadly still in season 1 :(

But I did get to read Justice League VS Suicide Squad Vol. 5! I didn't like it as much as the others, but it still progressed very nicely and has me ready for the next issue!

This Week's Binge...

(We'll see what I get done this week, I came down sick and apparently you can tear your lungs if you cough to hard- but no one told me that when I came down with broncitis! So we'll see how I do at work, I really don't want to think about if I did actually tear something with all the coughing.)

For this week, I've got Justice League VS Suicide Squad Vol. 6, this is the last issue in the series from what I understand. Crossing my fingers and being very hopeful about the ending! Lobo has made some appearances so that's interesting.

And I'm also going to be reading Fullmetal Alchemist Vol. 2!

So that's the plan! What are you guys currently watching or reading??

Any good anime or manga??

Thanks for reading!!

A Sea Monstrous Sequel | Daughter of The Siren Queen by Tricia Levenseller

Title: Daughter of the Siren Queen

Author: Tricia Levenseller

Published: February 27th, 2018

Other books: Daughter of the Pirate King (Book 1)

LINKS: Amazon

[About: Alosa's mission is finally complete. Not only has she recovered all three pieces of the map to a legendary hidden treasure, but the pirates who originally took her captive are now prisoners on her ship. Still unfairly attractive and unexpectedly loyal, first mate Riden is a constant distraction, but now he's under her orders. And she takes great comfort in knowing that the villainous Vordan will soon be facing her father's justice.

When Vordan exposes a secret her father has kept for years, Alosa and her crew find themselves in a deadly race with the feared Pirate King. Despite the danger, Alosa knows they will recover the treasure first . . . after all, she is the daughter of the Siren Queen.
]

When dealing with duologies, I usually end up disliking the sequel- either the first book was much better or the sequel ended up ruining everything (there are other variables here as well). Daughter of the Siren Queen is officially one of the best sequels I've read in a duology.

We finally see more of the Pirate King and we see what makes him so dangerous, whereas in the first book we really just hear about him and he makes an appearance at the very end.

And the reveal of a lifetime happens rather earlier in the book than I would have expected, but the author tied into other things throughout the story- to where we learn more about it and Alosa's mom by the end of the book.

I loved how this book showed more of Alosa's interactions with her crew and Riden (while her crew is watching), and we really like all the side characters introduced in this sequel! Remember in Daughter of the Pirate King, there were only a few side characters that were actually good and we liked?
Well in this one Alosa tells how she met her crew members, not all of them though- and it's spread out and introduced at the perfect parts for it. It makes you really love them, and their relationship with Alosa!

This was the female (Captain) Jack Sparrow that I love, that's slightly less drunk and part siren...

I was worried about Alosa's mom for most of the book, thinking she'd be an obstacle or antagonist (even if she wasn't as big of a problem as the Pirate King was presenting) against our fiery headed main character. But luckily, the author worked everything out!

Now Riden did not make the best decisions once or twice in the way he treated Alosa, but there was no cliche of leading each other on or anything else- he showed all throughout the book that he only cared about Alosa and was there for her.
Which was a nice breath of fresh for us readers, I must say. The romance was entertaining- but free from all those cliches we see now and definitely was the icing on the cake (which some might say is the best part).

As always, no spoiler for the ending! But it was definitely a wonderful read perfect! I'm debating between a 4.5 stars or 5 stars rating...

[My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐]

Have you guys read this book? What did you think of it? Are you wanting to read it- because I definitely suggest having a go at it!

Thanks for reading!!

Code: Breaker [Anime Discussion]

Title: Code: Breaker

Sub or Dub?? SUB!!!! Definitely sub!

Episodes: 13 + 2 OVAs

Manga: 26 volumes

Where to watch it: Hulu

Genre: Supernatural, school, comedy, action

[About: When Sakura meets Rei at school, she learns he's no simple transfer student - he's also a Code: Breaker, a government assassin with strange powers. From the director of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, a supernatural new series filled with action and comedy.]

So I discovered Code: Breaker a while ago when watching some anime AMVs on YouTube (don't ask why), and next thing I knew I was binging it all...

At first Sakura had given me a totally different impression than the kind of character she turned out being in the same episode. I thought she would be a annoying protagonist that I couldn't stand, but I stood corrected! She was blunt and forceful but it worked for her- she was still gentle and caring at the same time. I loved it!

And Oh. My. Gumdrops!
The side characters!!
  • So Rei is... well, he kills people- but we still like him! (I have no idea how else to say it xD)
  • Toki deserves his own show, I'm just saying, and he honestly makes me think of Keefe from Keeper of the Lost Cities... Anyone else get that? No? Okay, I'll go away now...
  • Yuuki was a precious cinnamon roll that I really want to be protected.
  • Heike was... okay while all the characters were hilarious but still had that extra touch where you cared about them, this dude was just flat out ridiculous- but he still made it work!

The romance...
So there wasn't a lot of romance in the show, it was implied that Rei and Sakura (who I SO ship!!) like each other, but the fact that Rei's a Code Breaker... doesn't help y'know?
It's only really revealed in the OVAs that Rei does have actual feelings for the stubborn girl, but it was still adorable!

The freaking Villain was WHO?!?!
This show was funny, but deep and emotional at the same time- the perfect show for me lol!

So when the villain had the most touching back story right before he... (sniffles), it practically ripped out my heart and stomped on it. This was a side character kind of villain that we didn't know much about at all until the climax- and then we get these heart shattering memories and realizations that explain why a perfectly good person went pshyco!

Now the manga continues and explains more about Sakura's past and much more from what I understand, the anime ends without explaining that so I'm going to be starting the manga and find out if my ship gets together!

Though the manga is rather hard to get ahold of, so I would suggest trying the anime first. And it does have a beautiful and satisfying ending- though there are sitll things to get tied up, and it takes a couple days before you let yourself somewhat like the ending too.... just make sure to watch the OVAs too!!

One of the only things I diskliked, is that at the beginning there was a scene that was rather gruesome and honestly unnecessary.

SPOILER- a small dog that was so sweet and such was killed very... suddenly while Sakura is being attacked.

SPOILER OVER

[My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐]

Have any of you read or watched Code: Breaker? What did you think??? Have you heard of it before?

Thanks for reading!!

The Promised Special Post + Giveaway Winners!

Here's the special post I promised in my Blogversary post! I let you guys pick what kind of blog post you wanted me to do, so here it is!!

(The Giveaway winners will be announced at the bottom.)

The winning vote for the special blog post was a Q&A!

So here's my answers to y'alls questions!
Also, you can thank Chloe @ Forever Fictional and Diva Booknerd for the Q&A!

~Ze Questions~

In the last year, have you noticed any changes in how you blog?

I'm more open and less insecure with other bloggers that have been at it longer than me. In real life I don't really talk about my personal life or thoughts with anyone- it's a rule. But I'm so comfortable with you guys it's hard to not tell you about how I'm doing (such as when I hurt my wrist, I didn't tell anyone in real life until it was obvious)!

What has been the most popular review you've posted?

Eek, um... let me check real quick...
It looks like my Book Review for Starfall by R. M. Anderson! (Well, now I know lol.)

What is your own favorite blog post that you've written?

Well, you see I don't have a favorite... I make sure that each post is something I enjoyed and loved making for you guys- otherwise, it gets deleted ASAP!!
I think of it like how I think of my stories that I write, if I don't enjoy writing it or anything then I'm not going to waste my time convincing someone else to like it.

What do you hope to achieve in the next year of blogging?

To still be able to support my favorite bloggers and to make more friends that love books! Honestly, I don't have many goals for my blog, I'm surprised I made it this far!

What's your favorite genre to read?

I read literally everything except Erotica xD

If you could meet five fictional characters in real life, who would they be?

LET ME LIST MY FICTIONAL BOYFRIEND LIST!!! *Crap, let me find it lol*

*clears throat*

Percy Jackson!
Keefe Sencen 😍
Maxon Schreave
The Darkling
And Riden (from Daughter of the Pirate King)

Believe me, this is just the top and less embarrassing ones on the list...

What's your favorite book-to-movie adaptation?

A Walk To Remember! I honestly loved the movie a bit better than the book!

Movie or TV adaptations?

Of books? Movies. In general? Movies lol. UNLESS we are talking about anime, in that case...ANIME wins!!

Series or standalone?

GAH!! Hard question!! It depends because there are some standalones that end in a cliff hanger and need a sequel and then there's some series that should have stopped after one book.

Hardbacks, paperbacks or ebooks?

Hardbacks!! But I don't mind paperbacks because usually, they are cheaper by a lot!

Giveaway Winners!

Remember when I gave the cover reveal and told you about my book that's coming out? Well, here are the lucky winners of the giveaway!!

They each won a coffee mug, a B&N bookmark, and an ebook copy of The Poet of the Heart!

The lucky winners have been sent emails already, but here's who won!

Desara V.

Addison Carmichael

(I have ARC copies available for anyone interested in reviewing The Poet of the Heart!)

Thank you guys for all your help and support!! And your kind comments about my book!!

It means a lot!

Thanks for reading!!

My friend Lindsi @ Do You Dog-ear? hosts My Weekly Pull for comics that she has read or is reading, so make sure to check her out because it was such a cool and fun idea that I asked if I could do it for anime and manga as well as comics!

Last Week's Binge...

What did I binge read/watch last week for anime, manga, and comics?

I watched the last couple episodes of My Hero Academia to prepare for the new season (whenever it decides to grace me with its existence).
And I watched some more of Black Butler- however, I still did not get as far in as I wanted.

Even if I did injure my wrist, I still had to work a lot and didn't have a big opportunity to binge more :(

This Week's Binge??

This week my brother begged me to let him watch Your Lie In April with me, so... how could I refuse?

And I'm going to be reading Justice League VS Suicide Squad Vol. 5!

What are you guys currently reading/watching? Anything new? Have you heard of any of these or watched them? What did you think??

Thanks for reading, have a lovely day!! <3<3<3

I'm Publishing A Book!! | Noel Becomes Ecstatic + Giveaway!

Exactly what the title says!!
It is a different writing project than the one we've discussed a few times- that one is still in revision...

I'm so excited you guys!! I'm going to let myself finally let go of those insecurities about my writing- and I'm going to publish my first book!

I know that I'll probably always be at least a little insecure about my writing- but that's because it's something I made and put my heart into. So it's a big step to let it go and let others read it. (Remember the freak out session with letting a Beta Reader read it? Because I do!)

FEAST YOUR EYES!!

Title: The Poet of the Heart

Author: LaNona Walker

Publication Date: June 20th, 2019

Pre-order here: Amazon

Add It To your Goodreads Wishlist here

Format: ebook, kindle

Genre: poetry, short stories, anthology, collection

[About: People can fade away, rose petals can be crushed and things can be lost, but at least you’ll remember how it was. The Poet of The Heart is a poetry collection that touches everything the heart can feel, hope for, cherish, and even regret. In a collection of poems ranging from romantic to heart-wrenching, Noel Walker dives into her passions and writes from the heart. Fragmented pieces of dreams and losses combine to bring you a touching series of stories that have deeper meanings in their rhymes and lyrics.]

Yes, my name is LaNona (la- ''no''- na) but my middle name is Noel- so I used that name when starting my blog. I had multiple reasons for doing so.

But there are several authors with the name Noel Walker, so I have to use my actual name- which definitely no one else has lol.
So as mentioned in my blog banner, to celebrate my official publication- I want to give you guys a giveaway!!

There will be three winners because I want each of you guys to have a big chance to win!

Prizes for the giveaway (each winner will receive the same):

  • A copy of The Poet of the Heart (since it's an ebook, I will send it to you through email)
  • A Coffee Mug from Noel's Mug Collection (this one is going to make me cry)
  • A special Bookmark from B&N (which I'm only doing for you guys, otherwise it's so expensive I never shop there)

a Rafflecopter giveaway

I am offering ARCs to anyone who's interested in exchange for a honest review, so if you don't win there are still chances to get a copy!

So it looks like Books with Noel will be getting an extra page to do with my writing projects, and I will be getting on some more social media platforms (such as Twitter or Instagram)!

Guys. I'm actually publishing a book!!
(Is it a normal reaction to laugh and cry at the same time??)

While this isn't the Scifi novel I'm still writing, it is a book that I spent a lot of time at different moments in my life writing on and editing to make my poems better.

I've come to realize I'm not the best with expressing my thoughts and feelings through talking, I do better writing them- hence the insecurity and fear that I had to get over to make it even this far! (Also another reason why I love blogging more than vlogging...)

I just want to say thank you to everyone reading this, because even if you didn't know I was writing a book- you're here to see and celebrate with me!

Thank you all for reading, have an awesomely lovely day!!
~Books with Noel

P. S. I promise to update you guys next time, instead of just springing it on you that I'm publishing a book in a few months lol😅
