Harley in the Sky | When A Book Can Make You Dream

From the Ground to the Trapeze Line
Harley in the Sky by Akemi Dawn Bowman (I've heard so much about Bowman's other books, but this is the first one I've read!)

Published: March 10th, 2020

Genre: YA | Contemporary | Fiction | Romance

AMAZON | GOODREADS

Synopsis: The Greatest Showman meets This Is Us by way of Sarah Dessen in this heart-wrenching, hopeful contemporary novel about a multiracial teen who risks it all to follow her dreams by joining the circus, from the critically acclaimed author of Starfish.

Harley Milano has dreamed of becoming a trapeze artist for as long as she can remember. With parents who run a famous circus in Las Vegas, she spends almost every night in the big top watching their lead aerialist perform, wishing with all her heart and soul that she would be up there herself one day.

After a huge fight with her parents, who continue to insist she go to school instead, Harley leaves home, betrays her family, and joins the rival traveling circus Maison du Mystรจre. There, she is thrust into a world that is both brutal and beautiful, where she learns the value of hard work, passion, and collaboration. At the same time, Harley must come to terms with the truth of her family and her past—and reckon with the sacrifices she made and the people she hurt in order to follow her dreams.

From award-winning author Akemi Dawn Bowman comes a luminous, unforgettable examination of love, loyalty, and the hard choices we must make to find where we truly belong.

This is the first Bowman book I've read, and I can say I'm very interested in reading more. (Do you have any you'd recommend?)

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, all thoughts and opinions are my own!*

One of the things that really made me love this book was the plot mixed with the setting and atmosphere- it was gorgeous! If you were a fan of The Greatest Showman or like to read books with the circus kind of setting then here you go- perfection!

While I can't say I loved Harley, because she was honestly rather petty at times and focused on herself. She did learn from it later on, and she was still a good character but I sadly didn't feel that loving bond with the main character.

Now the side characters were absolutely worth re-reading for.

Vas especially ๐Ÿ˜. (Where can I find me a Vas???)

[SPOILER: He's Harley's love interest!]

He was too good for Harley at several points, and I was so very happy anytime we got to see him in the book. He's one of those characters that you just know is very attractive in looks and personality xD.

He was my favorite side character, and Harley's grandmother was another. She did have me worried near the end, but all turned well!

Plot-wise, I really liked the idea at the beginning. Then I loved the idea, but the main character handled things rather pettily at spots which is where the side characters came in and kept me in love.

Harley running off to join the circus that her parents hate was a plot idea that definitely gave us some extra drama in the story and character relationships.
And then later with Harley making, again, some less-than-good decisions for petty reasons didn't help with my opinion of her though it definitely got the story heading in an interesting direction. It helped to get resolve and the development needed though.

The ending was a combination of Harley dealing with different relationships- some made me squeal happily, and some were touching and heart-warming. Again, perfection!

The only downside for me was Harley herself, she almost completely ruined the book for me and I hate her so much.
Have you read Bowman's book before? If so, thoughts??
Let me know what you think of Harley in the Sky!!

Thanks for reading!!

Now she exhibits signs of turning into a werewolf herself. Impossible, since she is human, all human.

Because one thing all were-kind know for a solid fact-
-a Wolf can't create a human shifter.

    Eek, eek, and eek!!
Okay, you guys have heard me rant about this series for the past year and I really enjoyed so many of them- but this one straight up is my absolute favorite!!

๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

I'm not really a ''paranormal and romance'' lover, but there are certain 'sub-genres' if you will, that I do like to read. I'm still super picky and half the time put the books down because I just- they're sooo cringy sometimes. But this series is one that I'm happy to own and re-read anytime.

Yes, Noel is a *sometimes* sucker for werewolf romance books. I guess you could call paranormal romances my guilty pleasure (and this may be the only time I admit to this!).

Hunter is the last book in the Sons of the Alpha series, and Carmichael did so amazingly in this conclusion it made the series for me.
If you saw my other reviews, then you know the first book wasn't my favorite- it was enjoyable but for me, I was in love with books 2 and 3 the most.
Book 4 has officially knocked them aside.
  They have been ''de-throned''.

I loved seeing all the characters from the other books again, and (FINALLY) our main characters in Hunter had been side characters that I'd been so curious about all throughout the series! (Again: Eek!!)
Scarlet and Adam were in and out of this series, but never had the spotlight until now.
And goodness, did I love their romance.

Yes, there was miscommunication scenes that made me want to hurl someone through a window (not sure who yet, I'm surprisingly very hard to piss off). But I loved how cute they were and their own stories that interweaved together.

There was some mystery in the plot to do with Scarlet's past, and her figuring out about her *supposed-to-be-a-fling* boyfriend being a werewolf. Mostly it was a steamy werewolf read, that the romance had my heart captured in; but I was very happy with the amount of action in it as well.

And then Carmichael's perfect epilogue topped it all off with a cherry at the end! I loved finding out about what happened to past favorite characters in the series plus seeing where new ones were going at the same time.

Do you have a guilty pleasure genre or subgenre of books?? (PLS tell me I'm not alone!)
Thoughts on paranormal romance, or werewolf reads??

Thanks for reading loves!!

Noel's Bookish Bouquet | Wrap Up & TBR

I'm taking a big, deep breath and exhaling.
It's been quite a long and busy minute since I last posted regularly. It's so so nice and actually relaxing to write here again!

January brought me a beautiful cold front so I took advantage of my (usually unused) fireplace to read in the evenings. ๐Ÿ˜ I took some more bookish pictures to share the cozy vibes as well!

As some of you know, I've been cleaning my bookshelves and was debating letting several books go..... call it an intense spring cleaning. So I've been hosting some giveaways and finally cleaning out my TBR Mountain as well as books I've had too long and will probably never actually get around to reading ๐Ÿ˜ฌ.
Though I also managed to get rid of several books I finally tried and hated with a burning passion, so that was nice!

How has your reading been doing? Have you set any goals and how are they going??
I only set two reading goals for 2020: my Goodreads challenge is to read a total of 69 books, and then I joined Tracy @ Cornerfolds 2020 Retelling Reading Challenge for 18 books.

I would like to think it's coming along nicely, but honestly, my main priority has been getting Chinese take-out lol.

I haven't been getting much reading done but I'm pretty happy with my progress still!
