Synopsis: From the USA Today and International Bestselling author of The Widow Next Door comes a demented page-turner.

If you knew your father’s darkest secret, would you turn him in?
What if his secret was connected to you?

Ruby Marlowe’s always been a daddy’s girl. Her mother died when she was two, and her single father has ensured she has everything she needs. However, everyone has dark secrets, and Ruby’s father is no exception…

When she's young, she doesn’t understand the weight of her father’s killing game. However, as she ages, she realizes her obsessive tendencies aren’t the only elements that separate her from her peers. After she begins to investigate her mother’s life and death, Ruby starts to believe there are some secrets even she doesn’t know about the serial killer she calls Daddy.

As her father’s killing grows rampant, the secrets get harder and harder to hide—and she fears it will all come crashing down. Will Ruby seek a different life for herself and betray the only person who has ever loved her, or will she get wrapped up in his sinister path?

*I received a copy of this book from Netgalley for my honest opinion, all thoughts and ratings are my own.

Honestly, this was a kind of rough read for me. It's not a read for everyone.

The story is told from Ruby's pov, from the time she is a little girl that just loves to play in puddles and sees something she shouldn't. Her father cleaning up a crime scene.
Ruby just sees the red color everywhere though and doesn't quite understand what's happening so she starts liking the color red- wanting to play in red puddles, having red rainboots, etc.

You read and see Ruby grow up and how the different things she sees around her affect her, she's a ddady's girl that thinks he can do no wrong though she eventually realizes that her father is a serial killer.

And honestly, the eerie and creepy parts of this book come from seeing the main character's mind as she wraps her thoughts around what she sees and hears.
As Ruby grows up and deals with the world around her, and sees her father growing restless when he doesn't commit murder, she tries to understand what's ''wrong'' and what's ''right''.

This is not a mystery kind of read, this is a book that makes you wonder what our main character is going to do and what will happen to her- every page you wonder what decision she's going to make as you watch her go through every age while knowing her father that she loves is a murderer.
It is well written and keeps you reading for sure.

If you love eerie and dark reads, this is for you.

I, however, did not completely realize this until I was already reading it. Yeah no, I had to go watch some light-hearted stuff after reading this and then only read kid books with my little brother for a bit...

My rating to this book is because it's not the kind of book for me, and heck no thanks! But if all of this piques your curiosity and you like those kinds of reads, you will enjoy it.
This is just my personal thoughts on the book, but it was also not my kind of read nor my kind of genre.

Have you heard of this book? What did you think?

Thanks for reading & have a lovely day!!

My Weekly Pull #22

My friend Lindsi @ Do You Dog-ear? hosts My Weekly Pull every Wednesday to share what comics she's been reading lately and hopes to read next, definitely check her out she's got some awesome suggestions! I'm more of anime and manga fan, so here's where I tell you what I've been reading and watching!
It's been a bit since I last did one of these posts, but since our county was placed on stay-at-home lockdown I think I'm gonna have time to do a lot more of them. Hope you're all safe and well! 💕

Recent Anime ~

I was able to watch the new My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising movie. And I absolutely loved it, my brother and I both agreed we're ready to watch it three more times!

Ironman Armored Adventures isn't exactly an anime, but it's a show that I somehow got hooked on and watched twice with no regrets!
It's if Tony Stark had become Ironman when he was a teenager, and the whole story is very different and centered around that idea.

I'm also planning to introduce a friend to Fairy Tail, which I've rewatched twice, but she hasn't seen at all yet!

Graphic Novel-wise, I just finished The Oracle Code (a new Barbara Gordon series) and Gotham High!

I enjoyed both very much and managed to squeeze a review in last week for Gotham High!
What have you been reading and watching lately??

Have a lovely day!!

The Sunny Adventure by Ira Alice | And the Next Thing I Knew...

Author: Ira Alice

Genre: Children's | Adventure | Family

AMAZON | GOODREADS

Synopsis:  Mother Fox asked her little daughter to go hunting and get some food for the very first time in her life. The little fox decided to catch the Sun since it looked very appetizing.

Going in search of it, the girl had no idea she would meet a little toad Loudcroak who would become her faithful friend.
This charming adventure story is filled with kindness, courage, and faith, teaching children how true friendship overcomes any obstacles.
*I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

My little brother absolutely loved this book, he even got a frog and fox stuffed animal that he calls Loudcroak and Redkin now lol!

It's about a little fox (Redkin) that is told to get dinner for her mother, and she sees the sun and thinks it's a kind of food and wants to get it for her mother. On the way she makes friends with a little frog (Loudcroak), and others, and goes on an adventure to get the sun!

It was a cute and funny read and had my brother (he's 7) bursting into giggles a lot. I absolutely loved the illustrations throughout the book and it made the little one even more excited!
My favorite part honestly was the ending, it was just so adorable and the perfect dash of irony and humor.
We've both agreed to re-read it for his bedtime.

Such a good story for a younger audience and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to read it to my little brother (and have him read some of it to me). He's working on his vocabulary, and this definitely helped. He read probably over half the book to me, and I took over to do the animals' voices!
I did a lot of the reading because there were long sentences he had a harder time with, but overall we both loved it.

My little brother wants you all to know that he rated it 5 stars 😂!
(I rated it 4 stars though)

Gotham High by Melissa de la Cruz | What You Didn't Know You Needed

Author: Melissa de la Cruz
Illustrator: Thomas Pitilli

Genre: DC | YA | Graphic Novel | Mystery | Comics

Published: April 7th, 2020!

AMAZON | GOODREADS

Synopsis: From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Alex and Eliza and The Witches of East End comes a reimagining of Gotham for a new generation of readers. Before they became Batman, Catwoman, and The Joker, Bruce, Selina, and Jack were high schoolers who would do whatever it took--even destroy the ones they love--to satisfy their own motives.

After being kicked out of his boarding school, 16-year-old Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham City to find that nothing is as he left it. What once was his family home is now an empty husk, lonely but haunted by the memory of his parents' murder. Selina Kyle, once the innocent girl next door, now rules over Gotham High School with a dangerous flair, aided by the class clown, Jack Napier.

When a kidnapping rattles the school, Bruce seeks answers as the dark and troubled knight--but is he actually the pawn? Nothing is ever as it seems, especially at Gotham High, where the parties and romances are of the highest stakes ... and where everyone is a suspect.

With enchanting art by Thomas Pitilli, this new graphic novel is just as intoxicating as it is chilling, in which dearest friends turn into greatest enemies--all within the hallways of Gotham High!

Our DC heroes and villains made quite the page-turner; I not only really liked seeing teenage Joker, Batman and Catwoman- but I loved how they were developed in the graphic novel!
I'll go as far as to say that I liked the Joker too!
It was so masterfully written and illustrated, I loved the glimpses into each character's lives, personalities, and trials!
Melissa de la Cruz did great with the 'showing and not just telling' rule.

The pov and way it was told was mysterious and suspenseful, I really like how it was done and added extra to the story.
There were a lot of different vibes because of the narrator, but it blended together really well and actually distracted you for a plot twist that I found very satisfying and epic!
There was a boy-next-door-vibe, bad-boy-and-bad-girl-vibe, and several others but I don't want to spoil! 😉

The moment everything clicked and made sense was spiraling for me. I had to keep reading to find out who-did-it, and what was really going on with these characters I already was almost in-love with.

I absolutely loved the mystery, the romantic and anti-hero vibes, and how you didn't really know who was good or bad- even though you knew the characters really well.

Can't wait to re-read this graphic novel!! *claps hands excitedly*

Who's your favorite DC character?? Have you heard of Gotham High? What were your thoughts or impressions??

Have a lovely day!!
